We continued the Knockin' On Heaven's Door series yesterday. It was my turn to speak. My assignment: What is heaven like? Here are the scuds:
- I think that the honest truth is that the thought of an unseen heaven is not all that appealing to many of us.
- When we think about heaven, if we're honest, it sounds boring.
Satan need not convince us that heaven doesn't exist; he need only convince us that heaven is a place of boring, unearthly existence. If we believe that lie, we'll be robbed of our joy and anticipation. We'll set our minds on this life and not the next. --Randy Alcorn, Heaven
- Heaven is a place where we'll make important decisions and work productively.
- Sometimes the Bible talks of heaven being a place of rest, and that has led some people to falsely assume that it's just kinda like eternal rest.
- If you think of work as a bad thing, it's probably because you're in a very dissatisfying or unfulfilling career that doesn't utilize your God-given gifts. In heaven, you'll get to tackle projects that thrill you.
- Jesus warned more about hell than he emphasized heaven.
- Just as there is an unbelievable, inconceivable, indescribable place called heaven to be gained, there is a horrendous, awful, agony-filled place called hell to be avoided.
Hell is nothing but yourself for all eternity. --C.S. Lewis
- You don't have to fear death if you've been redeemed by Jesus Christ.
If you find the subject of heaven fascinating, and you have more questions, here's an article from Christianity Today that you mind find interesting: What Will Heaven Be Like?
