sunday’s scuds (easter 2009)

What a great day at NewPointe. Unbelievable. First and second services were flat-out packed. Had the overflow open (KidStuf theater) in both hours (about 500 people watched the services from there). Don’t have a final count yet but I’m certain more than 4,000 people showed up @ NewPointe today. Most importantly, God showed up and he spoke right in to people’s lives. No doubt many prayed with Dwight to begin a relationship with Christ. It’ll be fun to see what God does in their lives.

Dwight kicked off a brand new series today—He’s STILL* Got the Whole World in His Hands (thanks to North Point for a great series title). Today’s message (and the whole series) is so relevant to what so many of us are dealing with nowadays—uncertainty. Dwight kicked off the series with a message entitled “He’s STILL* In Control.” Here are some of the scuds:

  • We have a tendency to think that wherever God is, things there will automatically get better.
  • The Easter story is not a story about people who lived problem-free lives.
  • Most of the Scriptures that you and I draw comfort and encouragement from come from a time of great difficulty and tremendous uncertainty.
  • If there were ever a time when we needed to turn to the Bible, it’s now.
  • In the midst of chaos, difficulty, and uncertainty, God still has the whole world in his hands.
  • The question you and I have to answer is this: Do I trust God?
  • The Easter story proves that God is in control.
  • We make our own plans but God always has the last word.
  • Most of your life is out of your own control.
  • You were not created to be a worrier.
  • How do you know that you’re really trusting God with a problem? You stop worrying.
  • If you’re worrying about it then it’s out of control.
  • The Easter story proves that God keeps his promises.
  • No matter what your problem is, there’s no need for despair because God is still in control.
  • God often does his greatest work during times of uncertainty, when he seems quiet.
  • Though everything around you is uncertain, you can be certain of this: God is still in control.

Anyone who trust in him will never be disappointed. Romans 10:11

It was awesome, God truly showed up bigtime! My family was there and I am always so glad that I can bring them to that place and be certain of the message, the music, and the ministry of NewPointe.
