First Wednesday

February’s out. March is in. And that, my friends, is great news. The beginning of  a new month at NewPointe means another edition of First Wednesday. Last month’s First Wednesday, you may recall, was snowed out. So it’s actually been two months since we’ve been able to celebrate together on a Wednesday night.

If you’ve not yet attended a First Wednesday, let me tell you a little about what it is: FW is a time of focused worship, practical teaching, and holy communion. It’s always passionate, always interesting, and always worth coming to. image

This month I’ll be teaching. We’re going to drill down on what it means to have an intimate relationship with God. Along with that, we’ll experience an intimate time of worship.

Set aside some special time for you and God this week. Come to First Wednesday.

And don’t forget: you and your family can enjoy dinner in the cafe beginning at 5:30.

First Wednesday: March 2, 7 p.m. NewPointe Dover Campus.

sunday’s scuds (february 20, 2011)

The “Connect the Dots (making sense of the Bible)” series continued last Sunday with part three of five: Obedience and Blessing. Here are some of the scuds Dwight fired:

  • Obedience is not beyond your reach.
  • Every time you and I sin, it’s because we’ve chosen to.
  • The key to living a full life is obedience.
  • Sin will always take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you’re willing to pay.

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:33 NLT

  • When you and I choose to disobey God, we always lose.
  • When we choose to trust God’s Word and His character, we always win.
  • People who obey God have an unashamed boldness about them—they are not afraid to stand up for what’s right.
  • God protects those who walk in obedience.
  • You do not have to compromise in order to reach your goals.
  • Sin brings doubt. Obedience brings confidence.
  • When you walk in obedience with God, you will be tested.
  • When you pass that test, you will experience immeasurable blessing.

canton campus demolition video

A couple weeks ago we showed a video of the demolition phase at the new NewPointe Canton campus (the former Faith Family Church building). In case you missed the video or you’d just like to see it again, here you go…

If you’re curious about the progress in Canton. Right now, carpet is being removed and planning continues. We’re still waiting on the authorities to approve the paperwork in order for us to get the building permit. So…we’re in a little bit of a holding pattern until everything gets approved. Pray that it all happens quickly! We’re eager to continue making progress.

Exciting times. Only God!

sunday’s scuds (february 13, 2010)

Dwight continued the “Connect the Dots” series Sunday with a message on sin and its consequences. Powerful, thought-provoking stuff. I took tons of notes. Here are some of the scuds he fired:

  • The Bible does not exist to prove there’s a God. He already assumes that. The Bible exists to help us get to know Him.
  • People who don’t believe in sin and don’t understand the Fall will find it impossible to understand the world we live in.
  • Everything that’s wrong with the world is because of sin.
  • Genesis chapter 3 is arguably the more important chapter in the entire Bible.
  • The first thing Satan likes to do to us: cause us to doubt God.
  • God didn’t create evil. He created a man and a woman and gave them a free will. When they chose to go against God is when evil entered the world.
  • Satan first tempts…then he accuses.
  • Two things Satan always attacks: 1. the Word of God, and 2. The character of God.
  • It is possible not to sin. Y’all ok?
  • Let me tell you why you sin: You don’t trust the Word of God and you don’t trust the character of God.
  • The essence of sin is that we trust ourselves more than we trust God.
  • Each time we sin it leads to more and more opportunities to sin.
  • God always deals in reality.
  • The good news: there hope for every one of us in Christ!

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

check out the new newpointe campus

Last Saturday we had a great team of dozens of volunteers gather in Canton to start karate-kicking down some walls in the old Faith Family Church building in North Canton. A great time was had by all.

I arrived at the site with Dwight at 8 a.m. and the demolition was already in full gear. The first people I saw working was a gang from our Millersburg campus (so cool).

We’re super-stoked to have the opportunity to have our own permanent facility in the Canton area. But before we can occupy, we have a lot of work to do. So we’ve begun the extreme church makeover. Here are some pics from Saturday’s action:

Wow, did we get a lot of work done?! Great day. So energizing. A great time was had by all. Watch for video highlights of the demolition this Sunday at all NewPointe campuses.

Wondering how soon we’ll be able to move in? We’re not sure but it sure would be nice to be in there by Easter!
