mad skillz

Sunday at the Dover NewPointe campus Bubba Joe Crankshaft showed up to display is basketball prowess. Kevin doubted his ability. The video is proof! Check it out:

Numerous people have asked if Bubba really made all those shots—or did fancy editing or trick photography play any role? I can answer on Bubba’s behalf: Every shot is totally legit (with the exception of one—and you can probably figure out which one that is).

Bubba is up for anyone who might want to challenge him to a game of pig.

sunday’s scuds (march 27, 2011)

Sunday Dwight continued the “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction” series. Here are some of the scuds he fired…

  • When we were young we wanted to change the world. What happened instead is, we’ve allowed the world to change us.
  • At mid-life your life is either miserable or meaningful—and you get to choose which.
  • God wants to do something new in your life. But first you have to resolve your past.
  • You were not made to life with guilt.

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you know perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:18-19

  • The difference between bitter and better is one letter: I. I get to choose.
  • Bitter people are NEVER satisfied.
  • We are called to forgive EVERYONE—for our own well-being.
  • The reason you’re angry is because you haven’t resolved your past. And the people around your are paying hell for it.
  • Until you do the KNOWN will of God, He will not reveal the mystery of His will that you so desperately want to know.
  • Some of the cheapest people I know are “Christians.”
  • Christians SHOULD be the most generous people on the planet.

The “Satisfaction” series concludes this Sunday at all NewPointe campuses and venues. See you there!

sunday’s scuds (march 20, 2011)

The “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction” series continued Sunday with a great message from Dwight called, “It’s a Family Thing.” The message was extremely helpful, practical, biblical, and relevant to anyone who’s a part of a family (which pretty much includes all of us). Here are some of the scuds I jotted down.

  • A good day at the office and a bad day at home does not equal a good day.
  • One of the most significant gifts I can give my family is the gift of a peaceful home.
  • Peace in the home begins with the husband and the wife.
  • One of the greatest gifts I can give my kids is to love their mother.
  • Wondering why your kids won’t submit to you? It’s because you don’t submit to your Heavenly Father.
  • Your kids need your love the most at the time when you think they least deserve it.
  • We need to physically love on our kids.
  • If you are a Christ follower, you ought to be able to look at your kids and confidently say, “Follow my example.”
  • We’ve got way too many parents in the world saying, “Do as I say, not as I do.”
  • It’s not the church’s responsibility to to grow and develop your kids spiritually—it’s YOUR responsibility.
  • One of the greatest things your family can do is serve together—and for you to give your kids the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.

what do you think of this commercial?

I’ve been watching a LOT of college basketball today. I’ve seen this commercial several times. It’s great.

Maybe it appeals to me so much because I have a daughter who turns 16 in two weeks (pray for me :-)).

I also learned a cool tidbit about this ad: The teenage daughter who drives away is actually the daughter of guy who plays the dad. And oh yeah…so is the little girl. Makes me like it even more.

Does the commercial work for you?

guess who it is, win a prize!

This week someone asked me if the couple with the bags over their heads (the artwork for NewPointe’s next series) was Jenny (my beautiful bride) and me.

The answer to that is no. It’s not us. It is, however someone at NewPointe (in fact there may be another staff member under one of those bags). Care to take a guess as to who it may be?

The first one to correctly guess the identity of both people wins your choice of prizes: The Five Love Languages book…or a pack of ramen noodles! (NPCC staff is not eligible to participate) :-)

i can’t get no…satisfaction

This Sunday we begin a new message series at NewPointe. Are you happy with your life? Most people, if they were being honest, would have to answer, “No.”

So how do we get satisfaction? It’s tough to find and even harder to hold, and we know it takes work. And yet we also know there is supposed to be some level of satisfaction in this life.

Is there a secret to finding fulfillment? Is there a plan? A template to follow? Or does it all just happen by happenstance and coincidence? Here’s what we believe - God wants us to be happy! But God’s definition of happiness is different from the way we typically define it. And if we want more for our life, if we want to be free and full and satisfied, we can get there, if we shift our thinking.

Series starts this Sunday at all NPCC campuses.
