wash the car

Sunday at NewPointe we began a two-part mini-series called Fight the Drift. The idea behind the series is that we all start out with big plans, big goals, big dreams and somehow as we navigate life, we drift away from our priorities. We don't do it intentionally, we just drift. So...we have to be intentional about not drifting.

Sunday Dwight talked specifically about how the Church has drifted over the years. He spoke passionately about how he's determined to not let NewPointe drift away from the mission and vision God has given us.

One of the ways we do that is by staying active within the church. Intentionally participating through volunteering and giving. And then he talked about washing the car. I thought it was a brilliant analogy. Here's what he had to say (my paraphrase):

Yesterday I asked our kids to wash the car. It wasn't a popular request. So I asked them, "Do you ride in the car? Does the car take you places? Then wash the car."

Wow. So the question he posed was this: Have you benefited from NewPointe? Has NewPointe helped you with your life? Has your family been blessed by having a church like NewPointe? Yes? Then give back. Give money. Give time. Give of your talents. We can't afford to carry you if you don't. The stakes are too high.

Strong words from a...strong man.
